Caldigit TS5 more dock review: maximum port, maximum power

The Caldigit designed to work with the APPLE Pal’s Thunderbolt 5 Max recently came out with TS5 plus.


The TS5 Plus looks like a dox before the Calgite, which has a simple rectangular shape and a visual intereste and a aluminum build on the bottom and sides for heat wastage.

This is a black aluminum color that matches the space black of the M4book pro models and comes with a strong 330 W power brick. In fact, the power brick is longer than the dock, but it is flat and is very good under a desk. The TS 5 plus is six inches long, five inches wide and 1.8 inches thick, while the energy brick is seven inches long, 3.5 inches wide and a little inch thick.

After using anchors of anchors with a built -in power supply, I am disappointed with large -sized Caldigit power bricks. There is a power supply cable that attaches to the power brick and then there is a cable in the power brick that plugs in the dock. Caldigit includes a set of high-quality 3.3 feet of thunderbolt 5 cable and a set of rubber legs with braided designs.

Although I am complaining about the power brick compared to the more compact design of anchor prime with the electricity supply I included, the Caligit TS5 Plus has more charging power for six more available ports, faster Ethernet and OYRYSERY device.

On the front of the dock, there is a 10GB/SBA Port that can provide 7.5W to charge the airpods or apple watches, with two 10 GB/S USB-C port, one 7.5W and the other that provides 36W, which is sufficient to charge an iPhone or iPad. There is also a SD card slot and a microSD card reader, as well as an audio combo jack and a small LED that lets you know when the dock has a power. Card slots support UHS -2 transfer speed up to 312 MB/s.

There are enough ports to add a ton circumference and multiple exhibits, but this is not a dock with HDMI port. If you need HDMI, you can get the right display to the HDMI adapter or just use Mac’s HDMI port.

I like the arrangement of the monkey. 36W USB-C Port Front and Center are useful and the front SD card slot is convenient to transfer photos from my camera. The USB-C port charges my device even when I don’t have my Macbook connect, so the TS5 Plus also acts as a charging station.

It is useful to have a three 36W USB-C Port available on TS5 Plus because I can charge an iPhone, iPad Pro, Apple Pal Watch, Airpods and Airpods and AMACBOOK Air while charging my MacBook Pro and while operating multiple display. I got a full fast charging for the 16-inch AmacBook Pro, and plugging in more device did not reduce the energy level.

The TS5 Plus has dual USB controllers (one and one in the front) and multiple device plugged in at the same time and not transferring data. I tested with Thunderbolt 5 SSD and two additional USB-C SSD and I didn’t see any drop off at the speed of transfer.

With no fan inside, the TS5 Plus can warm up in the touch. It is not hot enough to burn, but in the winter it will warm your hands and I don’t want to have a chocolate bar on top. Aluminum’s refrigerant heat destroys heat, but this anchor will not cool down as prime. On the plus side, the operation is calm because it does not have a fan.

The thunderbolt supports 80 GB/s speed with a bandwidth boost up to 120 GB/s for 5 display, so the thunderbolt is twice as fast as 4, which is 40 GB/s. More bandwidth is also available for SSD, which allows faster data transfer.

Using TS5 Plus and Thunderbolt 5 Jubilee Ultra from OWC, I could get the maximum speed of reading 4,647 MB/S and 5,154MB/s. The speed was slightly slower than SSD plugged in my AmacBook Pro directly on my AmacBook Pro.

Thunderbolt supports up to three display at 5 pcs, but not on Mac. On Mac, because of the GPU limits you are still going out in two exhibits on the same Thunderbolt 5 connection (run via ADD). With the TS5 Plus, you can add several other display depending on two 8K display at 60 Hz, two 6K display at 60 Hz, a 5K and 6K display, two 4K display at 240 Hz and which Mac depends on which Mac.

With the M4 Pro or M4 Max, you can actually run up to the dumps, but for that setup you need either two Thunderbolt 5 Docks or you need to use the other Thunderbolt and HDMI port available on your machine.

For high resolution, the M4 Pro supports only 8K display, so you are limited with the dock. The M4 Max can perform two 8K display at 60 Hz, two 6K display at 60 Hz and one 8K display at 60 Hz or four at 6 k60 Hz. Calgit says you can run a two 8K display via TS5 Plus, but if you have other devices like SSD connect you can test the bandwidth limit. You probably find it best to plugge an 8K displayck in and then attach the other 8K to a separate Thunderbolt 5 Port or Mac’s HDMI port

I do not have a dual 6K or 8K dual display setup available, so I am not able to push the TS5 Plus to its limit. I usually use my AmacBook Pro with a 5K studio display added to the Thunderbolt, but I added 4K144 Hz to test with TS5 Plus. I did not run to any problems with two exhibits connected to multiple SSDs and other peripherals.

If you have the same setup with a 5K display and 4K display, or two 6K display, you will not access any problem, except that you will have a bandwidth to upgrade to the higher resolution display as it comes down to that type of technology. There are some fine-print limitations on display that any possible buyer should check. You cannot run the dual LG ultrafine 5K display, for example. Dual 5K monitors need to have a thunderbolt 4 or Apple Pal Studio display and 6K monitors Pro Display XDR or Thunderbolt 4 display.

I tested the TS5 Plus mainly with the M4 Pro Macbook Pro, but it is also compatible with the Thunderbolt 4 machine. Even with my M1 Max -MacBook Pro’s using me, I didn’t have any problems and it innocently worked with the M4 AmmacBook Air. You can also connect to the iPad that supports a thunderbolt like the M4 рдк iPad Pro.

For the old Mac with base M1, M2, or M3 chips, you can only use an external display with the dock of Caligit. If you have AM1/AM2/M3 max or pro chip, you can use dual display without any problem.

Base line

If you have a thunderbolt 5 MAC and if you need a speedy data transfer speed with a high resolution display, you will not go wrong with TS5 Plus. This is one of the most capable Thunderbolt in the market, and its wide selection of ports will work for almost any configuration.

Thunderbolts 5 dox are compatible with the thunderbolt 4 machines, so for future-proofing purposes, it would also be worthwhile to choose a TS5 plus to get 10 GBE or offer multi-day-light charging power. With three 36W USB-C ports, you can most likely charge all your device with TS5 Plus, by eliminating the requirements of multiple cables going to the energy source from your desk.

If you are looking for the best Thunderbolt 5 performance, this is a dock and I recommend using a high resolution display and any commercial setup that requires speed transfer speed. This is more expensive than some other dox, which includes $ 400 Caldigit TS5 and $ 400 anchor prime, but if you need the flexibility of 20 ports, extra money may be useful.
